Top Five Octavia Butler Books

(The problem here is that Octavia Butler has a slender oeuvre, all of which is worth reading, and also that I encountered most of it in omnibus editions, which means that this “top five” contains eleven of what I’m counting as her fifteen books. Here, in any case, are my favorites, in order of preference.)

  1. Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents

  2. Lilith’s Brood (comprised of Dawn, Adulthood Rites, and Imago)

  3. Seed to Harvest (comprised of Patternmaster, Mind of My Mind, Wild Seed, and Clay’s Ark)

  4. Bloodchild and Other Stories

  5. Conversations with Octavia Butler (University Press of Mississippi)
