Top Five James Albums

(In 1990, when Gold Mother came out, the sound represented such a departure from their earlier albums that I literally thought they were a different band—some other James—when I listened to it. I still hear their earlier material with younger and more excitable ears, but I’ve grown to value their later work just as much. Here are my top five, in order of preference.)
