Ten Favorite David Warner Performances

(Warner tended to leave an impression. I bet you’d recognize him. He appeared frequently in Chekhov, Ibsen, and Shakespeare adaptations, none of which (sorry) I’ve seen, but he’s also famous for his roles in various science fiction and fantasy projects, many of which I know well. Here are my ten favorite performances he gave, in order of preference, including films, TV series, and stray episodes.)

  1. Time Bandits (directed by Terry Gilliam, 1981)

  2. Wallander, various episodes (directed by Philip Martin, Niall MacCormick, and Benjamin Caron, 2008-2015)

  3. The Omen (directed by Richard Donner, 1976)

  4. “Chain of Command”: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season Six, Episodes 10 & 11 (directed by Robert Scheerer and Les Landau, 1992)

  5. Time After Time (directed by Nicholas Meyer, 1979)

  6. “Demimonde” and “What Death Can Join Together”: Penny Dreadful, Season One, Episodes 4 & 6 (created by John Logan, 2014)

  7. Batman: The Animated Series, various episodes (created by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, 1992-1995)

  8. Tom Jones (directed by Tony Richardson, 1963)
